CyrusOne Lead Network Development Engineer in Chicago, Illinois

Job Purpose

This position will be a leading member of our team of network development engineers that is responsible for automating all of our network systems and functions. This position will both lead and be an active contributor to the team that designs, develops, implements and supports our critical network-centric software applications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop applications within our suite of network automation products

  • Translate business requirements and existing methods of procedure into functional pieces of software

  • Develop code that is tested, robust, and secure which can be integrated into existing applications

  • Leverage Cisco NSO, RedHat Ansible, and Itential Pronghorn as critical pieces in the automation workflow

  • Create and promote coding standards utilizing a traditional development/staging/production methodology

  • Communicate assigned project and task status with accuracy and with sensitivity to deadlines to management and other stakeholders

  • Participate in and lead team meetings as required by project demand

  • Manage and support interactions with third party vendors and contractors on key projects

  • Maintain multiple lab environments for testing and staging

  • Maintain the compute and storage systems responsible for supporting the network ecosystem

  • Evaluate new automation and SDN style products

  • Actively participate in the CyrusOne change management process

  • Manage assigned tickets via CyrusOne ticketing system, ensuring that updates are frequent and well constructed

Significant experience and demonstrable technical skills in the following areas :

  • Programming Fundamentals: Python, Bash, JavaScript, Django, C++ Data Handling, Formats, and Models: XML, JSON, YAML, YANG

  • Device Programmability: NXOS-API, ASA-API, IOS (XE/XR), PanOS, NETCONF

  • Application Programming Interfaces: RESTful, RESTCONF

  • Database Administration: Microsoft SQL, MongoDB, HTML; PHPMariaDB/MySQL

  • Systems Administration: Linux/Unix/Window Server Netconf; YANG; YAML

  • Automation Tools: Cisco NSO, RedHat Ansible, Itential Pronghorn

  • Python; Perl; XML; JSON; DJAngo; API

  • Version Control and CI/CD: Git, Gitlab, JIRA, Jenkins

  • Linux/Unix/Windows operating systems

  • Git; JIRA; Jenkins

  • Familiarity and understanding of common network technologies:

  • IPv4, IPv6

  • BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, MPLS, VRRP

  • STP, LACP, L2/L3 Switching, SNMP, NetFlow

  • Familiarity and understanding of common network devices and operating systems:

  • Cisco ASR 9000 w/ NV Satellite running IOS-XR

  • Cisco Catalyst 4500X, 3650, 2960 running IOS and IOS-XE

  • PaloAlto PA5220, PA3220, PA220 running PanOS8.1

  • Ruckus AP710 running ZoneFlex 110

  • Familiarity and understanding of common third party network tools:

  • Solarwinds NPM, Kentik Detect, Nuestar DNS

  • Cross Connect Management - NCS

  • ForeScout, Qradar, Splunk

  • 6Connect IPAM, Solarwinds IPAM, RADB

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience

  • CCNA or equivalent

  • NPDEV or NPDESI

  • Three or more years of experience as a network, development, or hybrid engineer

  • Strong can-do attitude in a time sensitive operational environment

  • Technical experience with Enterprise Campus and Service Provide type networking environments

  • Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills,

  • Capability to self-schedule time with the flexibility to handle varying workload, and still meet tight deadlines, with the ability multi-task and work multiple projects simultaneously

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, decision making, presentation and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or MBA

  • CCNP or equivalent

  • NPDEV and NPDESI

Other important information about this position:

  • Travel is required on occasion as dictated by projects

  • This position requires typical weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance in an office setting, at times after-hours work may be required to meet business and customer needs.

  • This position requires participation in an on- call rotation to provide 24/7 support to internal stakeholders
